Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A pilgrimage to Tarapith ended in a horrific tragedy on Friday morning at Jalpaiguri Town Station. Anjana Dhar, a 42-year-old resident of Arvind Nagar, lost her life while attempting to board a moving train. The accident occurred around the time the Kolkata-bound superfast train was scheduled to depart.
According to eyewitnesses, Anjana and her husband reached the platform just as the train began to pull out. In a desperate rush to not miss the journey, the husband managed to jump into the moving compartment first. However, as Anjana tried to follow suit and boarded the moving coach, her foot slipped from the footboard.
Despite her frantic attempts to hold onto the handrails, the increasing speed of the train pulled her into the narrow gap between the platform and the compartment. Horrified onlookers and passengers screamed in panic and quickly pulled the emergency chain to stop the train, but it was too late. Anjana fell onto the tracks and was crushed under the wheels of the moving train, dying instantly at the scene.
